What Do the symbols in your henna mean?

The beautiful thing about any type of art it's that it is on its own language.

The start of this art was to pass blessings, luck, prosperity and protection by symbols. With Mehndi (the art of Henna), it is a type of body art that it is filled with shapes, patterns and design which all represent something. Your body is not only embellished but it becomes a canvas of sacred art holding a message. Some common Symbols in henna design are;

The eye ; Which is a symbol of protection, deflect the evil eye

The Hand (khamsa) *number 5 : human creativity and power.(when with the eye it usually symbolizes stopping the bad eye.

Dragonflies and butterflies: represent transformation or rebirth and new beginnings.

Paisley : The origin of the shape symbolizes luck with fertility.

Flowers: they represent beauty and new beginnings.

The lotus flower: It’s a symbol of grace, purity, and heart.

Vines and leaves: These represent strength, longevity and abundance.

Snakes : they are known to represent seekers of enlightenment

Om: spiritual symbol or mantra that broadly refers to the self and universal spirit.

Tibetan Knot : represents eternity, wholeness, and the interconnectivity of all life

The Design created for you is not only a decoration but each line and dot tell a story. It's important to remember that there is a purpose and a meaning behind every motif. I always like to remind myself that symbols are a language of the human soul, the language of our unconscious.
